Elements & Principles of Design
A line can face any direction and it can be curved or straight.
A shape is a sealed line which represents width and length.
Form is a shape showing width, length, and depth.
Space is the part of a photograph around the object(s).
Color is how light reflects off of certain objects.
Texture is what the object looks and feels like. Texture can be rough or soft.
Balance is the weight of the photo and how it is distributed.
Emphasis is when a photograph contrasts with the rest of the photo using color, shape, texture, and size.
Movement is the path of the photo using lines, shapes, or colors.
Pattern is the repeating of an object in the whole photograph.
Repetition uses pattern and creates unity within the photograph.
Proportion shows unity between objects in a photograph.
Rhythm is formed when one or more elements of design are used repeatedly creating an organized movement.
Variety uses many element of design to catch the viewer's eye throughout the photograph.
Unity is a feeling of togetherness between all the objects that creates a sense of the photo being complete.
